Collaborate on the
Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC)
Pediatric Jump Kits for Ambulances Project
Background:
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs – Wisconsin (www.gfwc-wi.org) and the Wisconsin –Upper Michigan Kiwanis International Clubs (www.wiumkiwanis.org) are partnering to accomplish an important goal – funding the now nationally known and award winning EMSC Pediatric Jump Kit Bags for Ambulances Project.
Our clubs have been asked to adopt their local EMS department to assist in funding and equipping their services with the Pediatric Jump Kit Bags (Ped Bags). Ped Bags are specialized kits that put critical pediatric emergency equipment and supplies in one place on ambulances. These Ped Bags will enable Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers to respond to pediatric calls with organized,
easily accessible and properly sized equipment for all size children. Several clubs have adopted more than one EMS department and some clubs are working with the EMS service(s) to fund all ambulances in their County!
For EMS departments without a participating GFWC or Kiwanis club, the EMSC committee plans to fund one Ped Bag per service and offer a limited number of matching grants to help fund a Ped Bag for a second ambulance.
The pediatric bag is based on the Federal EMSC and State of WI Pediatric Equipment and Supplies for Basic/Advanced Life Support Ambulances lists, and a nationally recognized color-coding system. The Ped Bag is filled with supplies sized for infants and children in one organized, easily accessible, location. The EMS provider has ready access to the correct sized supplies needed to provide emergency medical services to the young patient(s). Currently, 229 ambulance services carry at least one Ped Bag. Additionally, the WI-UM Kiwanis clubs have added a Ped Bag for First Responders.
